The Ask
To help save a critically ill patient with acquired hemophilia that presented in the ER.
There are approximately 350 people who experience spontaneous bleeding caused by acquired hemophilia each year. With over 5,800 hospital facilities nationwide that may need to treat a patient in an emergency situation, BioCareSD had to ensure that the facilities were ready to care for these cases at a moment’s notice.

The Challenge
To quickly deliver a life-saving therapy to a critically ill patient.
At 6:00 am EST on a Saturday morning, a hospital in New Brunswick, NJ had a patient present in the ER with acquired hemophilia. The care team needed 11 doses of antihemophilic factor therapy to initiate treatment and then required continued support over a 4-day period. The therapy needed to be sourced nationwide throughout the BioCareSD network, utilizing multiple forms of transportation to ensure treatment was never disrupted.
At 3:03 am MST the BioCareSD team mobilized to locate inventory nearby and facilitate immediate delivery to the hospital. The team also needed to actively coordinate replenishment of the original stock and secure additional inventory for continued treatment.
The Solution
BioCareSD was able to deliver the initial dose within 4 hours and continued to support the care team, delivering additional doses over a 4-day period.

All of this was achieved with countless hours of coordination, detailed communication, and an unwavering support system that kept the patient’s needs at the center of everything.
